Johnny's Greatest Hits

''Johnny's Greatest Hits'' is the fifth album release by vocalist Johnny Mathis and the first compilation of his hit singles released by Columbia Records.
The album has been released only in vinyl format in three different time periods. When it was originally released on March 17, 1958, it was released by Columbia's catalog number, CL 1133. In 1962, the album was reissued in an "electronically rechanneled for simulate stereo" format (CS 8634) as well as its original monaural format, a common practice for the major recording companies at the time. In 1977, the album was once again reissued, this time with different cover photography and the album's new catalog number, PC 34667. It was also issued in Great Britain by Fontana Records.
==Overview==
The album holds the distinction of being the first "Greatest Hits" collection ever released and for being the second longest charting album in the history of the Billboard album chart, charting for 490 weeks in about nine years.〔(News Page Johnny Mathis Official Website ) Longest Charting Albums on Billboard's Album Chart〕 Ray Conniff

* were the arrangers and conductors, directing the early style of Mathis's music potential: an orchestra with a female chorus. All songs in this album have an orchestra, and all but three have a female chorus. Two songs do not have a chorus, and one has only one background singer. The songs that originally appeared in 45 rpm singles are not assigned with their catalog number and its prefix "4-", but with the number in the parenthesis with the prefix "ZSP". Let's just say that one of Mathis's singles has two songs in two sides that appeared on ''Billboard'' magazine: "Wild is the Wind" and "No Love (But Your Love)". The single's catalog number is 4-41060. The first song is assigned to ZSP 42518 and the latter song to ZSP 42519, when necessary. As a result, the songs in the album's track listing are carefully assigned through Columbia's "ZSP" process, instead of just the catalog number. The track listing in the next section of this article is from the United States. For track 2, "Teacher, Teacher", another Mathis song that appears in his next compilation album, More Johnny's Greatest Hits, appeared in the British issue of ''Johnny's Greatest Hits'', outside the United States, marking a minor coincidence. Such a coincidence was the same for an unreleased song Mathis himself co-wrote that appeared in this album.
